KRWeather Tutorial

KRWeather

Many of you have seen my my series in Nuts and Volts magazine on building your own weather station.  I understand that many of you are not programmers nor do you want to be.  This was driven home when a couple good friends of mine wanted to build there own weather stations but did not have any programming background.

New Version 1.4

Now includes Web Server and Remote command support.

I decided to create a product that would allow anyone to create a custom weather station with absolutely no programming.

KRWeatherBuilder

KRWeather uses a special program called KRWeatherBuilder that allows you to add entries that define your weather station.

For instance you add an DS1820 1-Wire entry that points to your AAG Weather Instrument.  You define the type of display as well as the size, location and colors.

By adding the speed sensor and direction sensor entries you can build a cool weather station shown here.

I added charts to plot long term readings as well as a calculated wind chill gauge.

This cool clock uses only 2 entries in the KRWeatherBuilder.  One for the round clock and a second for and extra ellipse.  If you want something more elaborate The following weather station was created with 25 entries.

This is my own personal station and has indoor and outdoor sensors.  Each of the charts represent an 8 hour period.

Currently KRWeather is in beta and we are in the process of adding features.  We are even working on a KRWeather version for the Pocket PC.  If you want something and its in our power let us know and we will add it.

KRWeather Requirements

In order to run the KRWeather software you need to have a PC with the .Net framework installed.  The framework can be downloaded free from the Microsoft website.

KRWeather is designed to talk to 1-Wire devices using a DS9097U RS232 Serial interface.  The interface routines are built-in to KRWeather so no drivers are needed.

You will need to purchase 1-Wire chips, devices or instruments, many of which can be purchased from Hobby Boards
