While the USDA databases contain quite a bit of information, it is much more convenient to place common food ingredients into the custom food database. This database allows you to place food ingredient into various categories so you can quickly locate them.
Adding or Changing Categories
You add or edit categories using the category list.

To add or change the category you hold down the stylus on the entry you wish to change. This will pop up a category menu.

Here you can add, edit or delete a category. Note that in order to delete a category all entries in the category detail list must be removed first. If you decide to add or change a category the category edit form will pop up.

To change the category name, place the stylus on the name field. Use the scroll bar to select an appropriate graphic. Graphics are provided to help you quickly locate a category. Hit the Finish button to accept the changes or the Cancel button to quit without committing the changes.
Adding or Changing Food Ingredients
Once you have selected or created a category, you can now add or edit ingredients. This is done using the food detail list.

This list will display all the ingredients for the selected category.
Use the scroll bars to scroll the list so that you can bring into view the additional food values. You can also drag the header field separators to resize the field. A unique feature of the food list is that you can click any of the field headers and the list will sort by that field.
There are several operations you can perform on food ingredients. Lets take a look at each.

The first set of operations makes changes to the ingredients. The second set allows you to copy or move a food ingredient to another category. The remaining operations allow you to make copies of the information for use in other panels. The real power of the HealthAtHand system reveals itself with the many ways in which you can copy the data from one panel or database to another.
