Tips on Creating Dishes

Many times, when you create a dish, the number of servings is obvious.  For instance you may create a dish called hamburger that contains bread, condiments, and a beef patty.  In this case the servings field is set to 1.

What do you do if you are creating a large pot of soup?

Here is how I do it.  Add your ingredients to the pot.  Make sure you record the amount of each ingredient as well as the nutrient values.

Once the dish is complete you have two choices.  Weigh dish in ounces or grams then divide the serving size into that amount.  Or you can count the number of servings you dish out as the dish is served.

When I make soup, I use a 1 cup scoop and that's how I serve the soup.   I keep track of the number of cups served.

When the meal is finished, I scoop out the remaining soup and place it into containers for leftovers.

For instance:

Served  4 people 2 cups each = 8 cups

Leftovers = 6 cups

Total servings = 10 cups

Now the next time you make this recipe you are all set and there is no need to change the serving sizes unless you make drastic changes to the amounts.
